HYPNOTHERAPY FAQs

Online Hypnotherapy for Disordered Eating & Sleep (UK)

These frequently asked questions about online hypnotherapy, disordered eating support and sleep difficulties are designed to help you understand how hypnotherapy works and choose the right level of support for your needs.

Online Hypnotherapy – Common Questions:

Online hypnotherapy is delivered via a secure video platform and works in the same way as face-to-face hypnotherapy. You are guided into a deeply relaxed, focused state where solution-focused hypnotherapy techniques support positive change. Many people find online hypnotherapy just as effective, while benefiting from greater flexibility and comfort.

Yes. Research suggests hypnotherapy can be effective when delivered online, particularly for stress-related difficulties, sleep problems and behavioural patterns such as emotional eating. Sessions are tailored to your goals and focus on practical, forward-looking change.

As a specialist online hypnotherapist, I support adults with:

  • Disordered eating and emotional eating
  • Difficult relationships with food
  • Poor sleep and insomnia
  • Stress, anxiety and overwhelm

Sessions are solution-focused and designed to support long-term change.

Yes. Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention. You remain aware, in control and able to speak throughout the session. Hypnotherapy does not involve mind control or unconsciousness.

Hypnosis feels different for everyone. Some people experience deep relaxation, others feel simply calm and focused. There’s no “right” way to experience hypnosis — the process works even if you feel fully aware.

Hypnotherapy for Disordered Eating – Common Questions:

Hypnotherapy can support people experiencing disordered eating by addressing underlying emotional patterns, stress responses and beliefs around food. The focus is on supporting a healthier relationship with food, reducing anxiety and improving emotional regulation.

I support people experiencing:

  • Emotional eating
  • Compulsive or stress-related eating
  • Rigid food rules
  • Guilt or anxiety around food
  • Feeling disconnected from hunger and fullness cues

Support is ethical, non-restrictive and trauma-informed.

I do not diagnose or medically treat eating disorders. Hypnotherapy offers support alongside appropriate medical, psychological or nutritional care. If you’re under specialist treatment, hypnotherapy may be used as a complementary approach with agreement from your care team.

Yes, when delivered appropriately. My approach prioritises safety, consent and emotional wellbeing. Sessions are always tailored to the individual and never focus on weight loss or restriction. I do not use hypnosis with clients who are underweight. I ask that you have a BMI of 18 or above. If you are less then please do call me and we can discuss which approach is best for you as part  of a supporting team.

Hypnotherapy can help reduce stress-based eating patterns, shift unhelpful beliefs and support greater awareness of internal cues. Over time, this can support a calmer, more balanced relationship with food.

Hypnotherapy for Sleep & Insomnia – Common Questions:

Yes. Hypnotherapy is often helpful for sleep difficulties linked to stress, anxiety, racing thoughts and nervous system dysregulation. By calming the mind and body, hypnotherapy supports more restful and consistent sleep.

I support adults experiencing:

  • Difficulty falling asleep
  • Waking during the night
  • Early morning waking
  • Sleep anxiety
  • Poor-quality or non-restorative sleep

Support is available through 1:1 online hypnotherapy or a 6-week online self-serve sleep programme.

The 6-week online self-serve sleep programme is a structured course designed to support better sleep using guided hypnotherapy recordings, nervous system regulation techniques and practical tools. It’s delivered fully online and can be completed at your own pace.

The programme is suitable for many people experiencing insomnia related to stress, difficulty switching off or sleep anxiety. If sleep difficulties are complex or linked to medical conditions, personalised 1:1 hypnotherapy may be more appropriate.

1:1 hypnotherapy provides personalised, live support tailored to your specific sleep difficulties.
The 6-week self-serve programme offers structured guidance you can work through independently. Both approaches use solution-focused hypnotherapy principles.

You may drift in and out of sleep, especially with evening recordings. This is completely fine — hypnotherapy can still be effective even if you fall asleep.

Some people notice improvements within a few weeks, while others experience gradual change. Consistency is important, whether using recordings or attending live sessions.

Practical Questions:

I work with people across the UK through online hypnotherapy sessions and programmes. I also see clients in person in my clinics in Hampshire and West Sussex.

Your first session includes a discussion of your goals, an explanation of how hypnotherapy works and the supporting neuroscience and why I work in the way that I do. It’s important to me that my clients understand what it is that we are doing and why. Everything moves at your pace.

Yes. All sessions are confidential and delivered in line with professional and ethical standards. I adhere to the code of conduct of practice of the following professional bodies: https://www.afsfh.com https://www.cnhc.org.uk/

If you’d like personalised guidance and accountability, 1:1 sessions may be the best fit.
If you want flexible, independent support, the 6-week online sleep programme may suit you better. You’re welcome to get in touch for guidance.
