“I love Mondays. Don’t you?”
The question my friend ended our conversation with this morning. So, I thought I’d start this with the very same! I realised as we were talking about the children, her new job, logistics of feeding the children before next week’s Panto and life in general, that she is a huge inspiration to me. (Don’t worry, I did tell her.)
Like so many of us she has a busy life; juggling children, home, a new business and a husband. For as long as I have known her she has run and owned her own business. Last year unfortunately there was a big change in her market and her client base disappeared over night. No more business! No income! Not to be deterred she is already looking at how she can create another sideline from what she has left but in the mean time what is she doing?
Well, she’s got a job in one of the high street shops as an assistant. Part time a couple of days a week in the lead up to Christmas. In her own words,”the pay is rubbish” but, and it’s a big but
“It beats staying at home on my own over thinking everything”.
As I listened I realised that what she was saying applies to us all. She was explaining how much fun it was to be busy doing something that gets her out to meet new people and she has to be happy and interact with shoppers. She has met some fascinating people (an aromatherapist among others) who she never would have met if she hadn’t taken the job. She then went on to say that
“You don’t know where that one small action will lead you. Do you?”.
We humans are designed to be social and we have an amazing ability to create our own “feel good” chemicals if we do three things:
Act in a positive way – Do something
Interact in a positive way – Talk to others who will lift you
Think in a positive way – Choose your thoughts with care focussing on the good.
When we do this, and it can take practice, we are happy motivated individuals who will start each week loving Mondays.
