I’ve been surprised by how many clients I am working with at the moment who want to loose weight. They are all beautiful in my eyes but if they are unhappy then I am happy to help them.
You have probably heard go the “hypo band” rather than the “gastric band”. Whilst I do incorporate some visualisation into our sessions; where we imagine our stomach shrinking, being completely satisfied with smaller amounts of food and choosing food for its nutritional content, (among other things) we spend more time focusing on what is actually happening to make us eat in a way that we are unhappy with.
Our brains can often be responsible for our “out of control” food cravings. Going for a cake or biscuit and without consciously realising eating the whole cake or packet.
Why do we crave sugary and fatty foods when we are stressed? In being able to understand and answer this question my clients can start to make changes that can help them to take back the control that they had lost.
I’ve given this subject quite a lot of thought recently, not just for my clients, but in looking at my own personal eating habits too. I have realised that in many cases we associate weightloss with deprivation. This is an extremely negative mindset and as I’d explain, should you choose to work with me, one that can be extremely detrimental to your success. So what I suggest is to look for changes that you can add into your current lifestyle that will help you to achieve your goal. Some idea that my clients have come up with are:
Drink more water
Take 5 minutes during the day to stop and relax
Walk – try to walk further each day within the same 15 minute window
Eat more vegetables
Join a spin class at the gym
Join a yoga class
Listen to my CD once during the day in addition to bedtime
I’d love to know what other ideas you have that we can try to help us to take back the control in relation to food. In most cases we find that once we have sorted out the other issues in our lives the weightloss just happens.
